The seventh graders recently had the opportunity to learn the skills of CPR for victims of all ages. They also learned how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and how to relieve choking (foreign-body airway obstruction). The skills they learned will enable them to recognize emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest and know how to respond to them. They learned how to initiate the Chain of Survival, performed prompt, high-quality chest compression for adult, child, and infant victims, initiate early use of an AED, provide appropriate rescue breaths, practice 2-rescuer team CPR and relieve choking.
